Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
When booting the computer the system freezes with a black screen when gdm is started. Caps Lock and network also freezes. This happens about 50 % of the times the system is booted, but it seems to have a much greater chance of getting the same outcome as the previous boot.
When the system freezes it does not produce a new /var/log/
xserver-
Setting the driver to i810 in xorg.conf makes the problem go away (but introduces some annoying known bugs from this branch).
System: Dell Optiplex 745 USFF with onboard Intel GMA3000 with Intel Core 2 duo (with 32-bit ubuntu)
# uname -a
Linux oqct07 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
This is very similar, and may be duplicate, to bug #196220.
