Bug Description

After release upgrade from Wily to Xenial, the mouse pointer is invisible.

Reproduce:
– Install Ubuntu Wily Werewolf desktop from the official Live CD.
– Upgrade to Xenial Xerus with „do-release-upgrade -d”.

Only had a chance to test it on KVM virtual machine, but it happened every time I upgraded a virtual machine to Xenial.
Also, only tested via Wily -> Xenial upgrade, haven't tried Trusty -> Xenial.

Nature Xenial install from the Xenial Live CD daily build right away doesn't have this issue, so I assume something goes wrong during the upgrade process.

Seems to remember an identical issue with the X server, marking as affecting it.

This is actually affecting Xenial not too frequently on real hardware installation.
I remember it is present at the start of the session and it disappear (pointer reappear) as soon as I click the Logout written.
Never seen the pointer converted into a cross, only not drawn (invisible but presents and working).

I can confirm this is an actual bug as my system is affected too.

My system: Xubuntu 16.04 LTS, x86-64.

My system is an update to a 15.10 installation.

My solution is to switch to a virtual terminal (CTRL+ALT+F<n>) and then switch back to X session (CTRL+ALT+F7).

I have observed the same issue after upgrading from Xubuntu 15.10 to Xubuntu 16.04. Just as fabiomarconi described the cursor reappeared after clicking the logout-button. I use real hardware, no virtualization.

Why has this been marked Invalid ? I have the same problem, if not valid, at least it's very real.

Agreed, this is not invalid -- I just experienced this same problem after upgrade to Lubuntu Xenial from Wily, and although intermittent, it is very real. Logging out seems to solve the issue, at least temporarily.

I should add I am also using xserver-xorg-video-intel if there's a belief of a connection.

Probably is a dupe of bug 1568604

That's being prepared for SRU now.

This is not invalid, bugs still affects people as you can see here http://askubuntu.com/questions/780027/ubuntu-16-04-hides-cursor-when-using-graphics-tablet?rq=1 and here http://askubuntu.com/questions/809698/ubuntu-16-04-hides-cursor-when-using-tablet .

And i think that is not a duplication of bug 1568604, which has already been fixed.
