I have since found that the 1280x1024 needs to be changed from 24bit to 16bit to get rid of the faint vertical lines in xorg.conf.

The other issue regarding the slow booting have been reported elsewhere, so should be ignored here as a duplicate entry.
The Black horizontal line has been fixed in another post.
