I don't agree that this is a worthwhile trade-off, as it brings back to life the various i810 bugs we felt to finally be behind us. But here is the debdiff to enact this change:
In addition to the various i810 bugs, it also loses us the enhancements present in the -intel driver to provide to end users. I strenuously feel this to be a shortsighted way of addressing the problem. I have confidence that if we work with upstream and remain patient, a fix for -intel can be achieved, even if after the gutsy release.
