Today I've been trying to use the debian-lenny driver on gutsy, which is still at 2.1.0. With it, I can play videos using xv, and I still have dri and the best thing: I can switch to console and back, suspend and resume, no gray-blocks. Seems like at least for my i915GM it is much more stable then the 2.1.1 one in gutsy.
