Yes - the laptop has a 1400x1050 resolution.

But I don't get grey blocks or a distorted screen - the screen switches off instantaneous (completely - even the back light goes off).
No reaction to Magic SysReq Keys and not longer possible to log on over ssh.

The xorg-log ends the same after every crash - seems there's no time to write out any debugging information to the harddisc.
