Hi,

Apparently this tv-out black/white problem is much more a hardware problem than a software problem. I finally solved this black and white output problem using a ridiculously simple method: first turn on the TV (or other external video display) and then connect the S-Video cable from the TV to the computer BEFORE TURNING ON THE COMPUTER. That way, the S-Video adapter in my Dell laptop (with intel driver) correctly recognizes that I am using a PAL TV, not SECAM or NTSC.

Now if you first turn on the computer, then turn on the TV and then connect the S-Video cable between the two, then you will get black and white output on the TV and color output on the computer, which is what we need to avoid.

Hope this helps everyone. :-)
