Does limiting your desktop size fix this issue?

in the display subsection of the screen section of your config. I suspect your are running out of texture memory. The driver switched to letting randr select the virtual size, which results in a 1680x1680 front buffer (so that rotation will work). You might also try selecting depth 16 rather than depth 24.
