Also, I experience a similar problem on my Averatec 3280 laptop, which has a VIA Technologies, Inc. S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter (rev 01). Again, the output of the S3 adapter appears never to be right for the display, even trying low-graphics mode. (I'm typing this report on the same computer, running Debian 4.0, by the way) (Again, I'm trying to run the desktop 8.10 disk as a live CD). The hack of using the xorg.conf file from an earlier version of Ubuntu doesn't work in this case as well, since I can't get to a console to copy the file.

I have an earlier bug report regarding the same laptop, bug #186103, trying to install with an alternate install disk for Hardy. The problem appears to be the same. Note that this laptop and the gBox have S3 displays, though those are different models.
