Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
hello,
i recently tried to upgrade to hardy to do some test. The X server started as usual and suddenly froze! The xorg.0.log reported the load of the ati driver what is normal since I have an ati :01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 330M/340M/350M.
I then tried to force the video driver to vesa and it worked perfectly. None of the automated tools were able to recover this error nor the "failsafe" Xserver, nor dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. I also noticed that we are no more able to select the driver manualy in this tool, I think it is not a good idea.
