I have already upgraded via debian sid repos to
xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.197-1.
Now performing rotation from commandline with xrandr --output --rotate it doesn't crash anymore.
If there are any difference between hardy and sid and I'll also try the packages from hardy.
What doesn't work for me is the configuration from xorg.conf.
Xorg refuses to start with this config
