Neither sudo strace -p nor sudo ltrace -p with Xorg process ID produced any terminal output.
So I tried gdb again ... and kill-ed Xorg but that did not help either as gdb said it had encountered an error. So could not backtrace.
(I think I am doing this all reasonably correctly)
