Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

The touchpad is WAY too sensitive.
Right mouse button with three fingers and the scrolling is not what is expected on a the Macbook Pro.
The scrolling should be done with two fingers and to fingers should be the right moue button.

Here is an example of a xorg.conf with expected properties for a Macbook Pro:

Section "InputDevice"
 Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
 Driver "synaptics"
 Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
 Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
 Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
 Option "LeftEdge" "150"
 Option "RightEdge" "1070"
 Option "TopEdge" "100"
 Option "BottomEdge" "310"
 Option "FingerLow" "25"
 Option "FingerHigh" "30"
 Option "MaxTapTime" "180"
 Option "MaxTapMove" "220"
 Option "MaxDoubleTapTime" "180"
 Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "0"
 Option "VertEdgeScroll" "0"
 Option "TapButton1" "1"
 Option "TapButton2" "3"
 Option "TapButton3" "2"
 Option "LockedDrags" "on"
 Option "VertScrollDelta" "20"
 Option "HorizScrollDelta" "50"
 Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "1"
 Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "0"
 Option "MinSpeed" "1.10"
 Option "MaxSpeed" "1.30"
 Option "AccelFactor" "0.08"
 Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
 Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection

Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "0" should be true as well, but this has a weird history effect in Firefox

But I've even given you the correct "code". Please fix this and let Macbook
users enjoy Ubuntu as well

There's no way we will be putting that on the xorg.conf automatically. Actually, on hardy there is no entry in the xorg.conf anymore for synaptics, since we will be using input-hotplug soon.

If there is a bug, it should be fixed in the driver.

Btw, don't confirm your own bugs.

We are not going to add these settings to the xorg.conf.

Still MacBook Pro users need full support for their touchpad. What can be done so that they get it? Attach it to another package maybe? My knowledge of the Ubuntu enhancement process is a little too limited to know what there is to do know.

The possibility of confirming your own bugs seems to me like a bug in launchpad.

Maybe be creator of this bug report did not do the right thing, but IMHO he should be given a far friendlier explanation why his xorg.conf cannot be considered and he should be given a hint what there is to do know. Obviously, MacBooks should be fully supported by Hardy and every version following. Just my 2 cents.

You're welcome. Hope someone reads it. AFAIR Timo Aaltonen is very active in the community, so he should have an idea what there is to do. Have a nice weekend.

However, people don't seem to care about telling you what to do. This is strange.

Btw. with Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4+, the touchpad does not work at all.

I know it says to comment here only if this duplicate status is wrong - but I'm attached to the original bug and I don't see this level of technical input there. Worryingly, I don't see progress on this bug for over a year. The Sensitivity Slider in the Touchpad GUI does not work. Any attempt to reduce the sensitivity prompts the system to move the slider to the far right (some minutes later - it's like watching the cursor get turbo-boost).

This is a major problem for a laptop user.
