Thank you all for the info, specially the small details referring to:
- the xorg.config.d not being in the indicated location but on /usr/share/X11 - renaming the config file to 50-aiptek.conf
After that, the tablet does not have the "hovering effect" anymore and everything works fine, including pressure.
For the record, I have a Debian testing with a 2.6.32 kernel and my tablet is a Trust TB-3100
