The screenshot you showed is characteristic of what happens to Xgl in fglrx
when the fglrx kernel module is not loaded / couldn't be enabled but the
fglrx driver is specified in xorg.conf
Read over your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for any indications as to why
3D, DRM/DRI, or fglrx.ko could not be enabled.
