Bug Description

If you install xscreensaver, and then gnome-screensaver, you will get two
identically named 'Screensaver' entries in the System -> Preferences menu.
Removing xscreensaver resolves this. Perhaps making the two packages conflict
would resolve this in a simple way.

same here. I had xscreensaver from when I installed Breezy Preview release.
Then a recent ubuntu-desktop upgrade installed gnome-screensaver, but didn't
remove xscreensaver. After this, in the preferences menu, two "screensaver"
items were present. Manually removing xscreensaver removed the extra preference
entry.

Reopening. If for some reason both packages are installed, the menu names are identical.

I'm coming here from Bug #382475. Can these two packages be made to conflict with each other? I don't see a good reason why anyone would want both installed, and I don't think the Design Team is keen on having menu entries like "XScreenSaver" and "GNOME Screensaver".

(arrgh... how do I mark this as also affecting "gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)"?)

Daniel, you may have for instance XFCE and Gnome users on the same machine. Or you log in to either a XFCE or Gnome session depending on what work you are going to do. I think the xscreensaver preferences could be called "XScreenSaver" in honour of its proper name, I don't think the Design Team, who gave us for instance "gedit Text Editor", would mind :)
