When xsane is run with XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 there is no crash.

Workaround in the terminal:
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xsane

Workaround editing the menu:
env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xsane
