Bug Description
When I try to use my scanner, a Canon CanoScan LIDE 20, with xsane under the Live CD version of Ubuntu 6.06 Beta 1, it doesn't work. When I click "Preview", or in some cases when I start xsane, it starts making a very annoying grinding noise, which is clearly not normal. I must unplug the scanner's USB cable (which provides its power) in order to stop this noise; killing xsane does not stop it.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open xsane.
2. Click "Preview Image".
3. Wait for the grinding noise.
Reproduceable: Always

I have the exact same issue under installed Kubuntu 6.06. The scanner is "jammed" and unusable, the weird noises are terrifying. There are several threads in ubuntuforums.org where is mentioned that the problem appears only in Dapper and not in Hoary.
