Bug Description

New bug since upgrade to 12.04:

I can start xpdf without a filename on the command line, but if I do give a filename on the command line, it crashes and spits out the text below. I suppose it is ghostscript/postscript language. Similarly: first opening xpdf and then opening a file from within the program gives a crash.

The output 'during' the crash is like this:
[@laptop:~]$ xpdf -cmd intensity_log.pdf

I have this problem too. A similar thing like this happened with Ubuntu 11.04 (I think that was the distribution at least).

Tried in 12.10. Still doesn't work.
Although it stays visible way longer than before, allowing me to catch a quick glimpse of the document.

If I hit Ctrl+Z in time, I can actually read the first page!

It barfs a the pdf contents on the console, says "segfault" and quits.

If this is the bug I'm seeing, it is particular to this build of xpdf, since I cannot reproduce when I build xpdf from source.

Changing back to Incomplete, as indium, the original reporter, has not provided the PDF that causes this crash. All other PDF issues should be reported in separate bugs to be triaged separately.

Am I supposed to deliberately post a duplicite bug report so I can provide my version of "just ANY nontrivial PDF file" ?

Dear all,

Quite some time ago, after posting the original bug report,
I have found a patched version of xpdf that I now have put in the 'hold' status
in my ubuntu/debian package management system. That particular version does not
do the crashing as reported below, and I vaguely recall getting the patched version
from the replies on this bug report.

I have since then stuck to the patched xpdf version and I cannot test whether the
original version, or rather now the ubuntu 12.10 version, still crashes.

Indeed I did not send a pdf with the report, but at least 5 PDFs made that old version
of xpdf crash and none of those made evince crash, so I am confident that the pdfs are
fine. I realize that this makes debugging difficult.

If it helps, my current -working version- pdf is called:

xpdf_3.02-12ubuntu2nopoppler0_amd64.deb

I do not recall where I got it from.

Sorry for having no input for the debugging anymore. I have lost track and had to be
pragmatic on solving my problem.

thanks for all the attention.
