Description:
Both in Live CD Ubuntu system and in freshly installed Ubuntu system the only display resolution I was allowed to choose was 640x480@60Hz.

System specs:
PIII-866Mhz, 512MB Ram, Voodoo 3DFX 5000 64 MB, 40 GB HD.
After loading installing
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (with GNOME)

Reproducing steps:
1. Start Ubuntu from live CD or fresh install.
2. Ubuntu is started with resolution 640x480@60Hz
3. Try to change resolution and freq. using System->Preferences->Screen resolution.
4. You won't be able to choose any other value for resolution and freq.

Work around:
1. Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf as root.
2. Go to section "Monitor"
3. Add following lines:
       HorizSync 30-70
       VertRefresh 50-160
4. Restart X11 or Ubuntu. You should get better default resolution and ability to change it to all allowed resolutions, color depths and frequencies.
