Bug Description

After having upgraded from Warty to Hoary, the resolution used by the X server was
low (only 1024x768 for a 1280x1024 LCD monitor).

Before the upgrade XFree was correctly configured : Here is a part of the
XF86Config-4
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Device "NVIDIA Corporation NV11DDR [GeForce2 MX 100 DDR/200 DDR
]"
        Monitor "L1715S"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth 1
                Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "720x400" "640x
480"
        EndSubSection
...

After the installation of xorg, the configuration of the screen was limited to
1024x768 : part of xorg.conf
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Device "NVIDIA Corporation NV11DDR [GeForce2 MX 100 DDR/200 DDR

        Monitor "Écran générique"

                Depth 1
                Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection

My monitor is a LCD LG Flatron L1715S. resolution upto 1280x1024 with a NVIDIA
Geforce graphic card

Sorry for the delay, but I have forgotten this bug report. Apparently I don't
receive the mail from bugzilla to my email address <email address hidden>.
Because I don't remember my password, and when bugzilla send me a mail to change
the password I don't receive it, I'm using anoter email address.

I've just received a new PC (new motherboard, new processor, new graphic card)
but I've kept the same monitor. I've install ubuntu Hoary directly from the CD
and I got the same problem. The monitor was by default limited to 1024 instead
of 1280 and I had to manually launch dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig to enable the
subpixel rendering.

The new graphic card is an ATI

Here is the output of ddcprobe and xresprobe dummy :

It's done.

One little question : If the status of the BUG is NEEDINFO, have I to manually
change the status of the bug ? or is it done automaticaly ?

Your LCD is reporting that it isn't an LCD -- it's telling us that it's an
analogue display device. In that case, we use the second-highest resolution,
since that is often the preferred resolution. In this case, there's nothing we
can do. Sorry.

Using a Westinghouse L1928NV since dapper. Native resolution has not been recognized since intrepid( xfce mid-session, IceWM mid-session, gnome on reboot). The feisty LiveCD has no trouble detecting the native 1280x1040. the EDID tools recognize this resolution but don't trust it.
