I reinstalled the hoary image "array-1" and I have noticed that
in the previous functional xorg.conf the options "HorizSync" and
"VertRefresh" were present.

According to the Apple specifications, in the section "Monitor" I have added:

HorizSync 71.0 - 73.0
VertRefresh 70.0 - 140.0

and all is working fine again.
