Bug Description

Fresh install of 7.04 final. My Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 does not get installed property.

In xorg.conf, I had to change the "Protocol" to "ExplorerPS/2" from "ImPS/2" and needed to add "ButtonMapping" to get my side buttons:

Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7"

I should clarify. The mouse worked as a basic mouse after installation, just not with the side buttons.

I have the same problem, as do a lot of other people with 5+ button mice.
Will we ever see proper out of the box support?

Really need this thing too.
When we will have to stop editing xorg.conf?

Gutsy install, Intellimouse Explorer2.0, I am experiencing this problem and am trying to learn how to configure it myself. I would like to know which button is which represented by the numbers i.e. is button 1 the Left click button, and button 2 the right click, If so what is the 4 5 6 7 buttons? I would like to make the tilt buttons scroll left and right and the wheel button the Back command in firefox and nautilus too "would be nice"

I have since upgraded to 8.04, where the side buttons worked out of box (mostly), but they didn't work in Firefox 2 when I downgraded. I hope it still helps.

Bryce I would like to confirm that on Hardy using the auto protocol detection option it does indeed work as expected on my microsoft comfort mouse 3000. I have filed a different bug though because the tilt wheel does not fire any x events https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/250424
