I actually got time to quickly test it, and yes, this bug still affects Plantronic headsets on Kernel 3.8.3-2

This command;
sudo rmmod usbhid && sudo modprobe usbhid quirks=047f:ab01:0x04

will resolve the issue, but you need to run it every time the device changes state, so it's not a very practical solution.
