I can confirm that this bug happens on Ubuntu 14.04 Gnome.
The problem is that some mice are getting stuck after left clicking; from what I have read, I think this only applies to those using wireless mice.
I am using the Logitech M-RBF111 Mouse which uses an old wireless communication system (The USB Reciever is huge!).
Also, if I am not mistaken, I believe it affects the installation process as well!
I can't believe it took me this long to find the solution to this problem... Literally tens of hours of frustration and various configurations.
I don't think there is a fix for this. Just get another mouse that is up to date :)
This might help when you are experiencing the problem though:
1. Right clicking releases the left click until clicked again (just a pointer for those struggling)
2. Un-plugging and then plugging back in the mouse also releases the stuck left click.
I hope this clears everything up for someone else who happens to be having trouble!
