Bug Description

After today (Alpha-4) upgrade when I have restart the system, after login, KDE freezes when try to load akonadi server...and I can't use the system because it freezes.
I tried from console to make a new user but I have the same problem.
I not use ext4 filesystem or ecrypted home.

I can confirm this as I am seeing the exact same thing (though I am using Ext4 and ecrypted home).

Same problem after renaming my .KDE directory too.

Removed Akonadi (I use Thunderbird), but see the same issue after a reboot.

I noticed that if I kill the window manager, I can get the desktop to respond again (sans window manager) and fire off apps like Firefox here. The second I try "kwin --replace" or "compiz --replace", the desktop freezes again (until I go to a console and kill the window manager).

I'm running the 64-bit flavor of 9.04a4 with all updates as of this minute.

It seems to be related to desktop effects, and affecting others as well, as per this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1062571

I was able to disable them and now kwin doesn't freeze on startup.

Not an akonadi bug. Affects both Compiz and KDE, so probably a result of xorg-server update.

Yes, it is no an akonadi bug...I think it is a xorg or nvidia problem. I don't use Compiz but desktop effects of kwin.
