driver installed for nvidia is nvidia-kmod-173.14.12-5.lvn9.src.rpm from livna repository,
Uniquely it happens only when I login into KDE4 and not in gnome, and shows all same symptoms as Rocco mentioned,
the lockup happens randomly ranging from 1/2 a minute to 5 minutes, and the X locks up for a while after which the lock is released and then lock can occur randomly again.
I noticed the same error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Strangely, X doesnt lock up randomly when I use gnome rather than kde4, I tried disabling composite in xorg.conf, but X in kde4 still locks up randomly.
Even I have the same problem at my end, the installation here is Fedora 9 sulphur,
$ /sbin/lspci | grep VGA
