@Alberto:
1) These options were suggested in order to get Compiz properly working for my ATI card and they did do the trick in other distros.
I have tried to remove them, no working card
2) Tried setting Composite to 0, also no success.

With both attempts the monitor goes into "sleep mode" and I can only restart the computer by pressing the power button for a longer time.
