Even so, the X server and graphics card will be idle most of the time. This will
also be true with Xgl, I don't think the distinction between 2D and 3D really
matters either.

If you want to see what things look like when the X server never goes idle, try
running something like x11perf. :)

I'm going to attach a DRM patch that might help narrow things down.
