I confirm that, as reported by @rubo77, this issue does not happen using non-Compiz desktop environments such as XFCE.
In the Ubuntu session, every time xorg crashes this happens _always_ on a window/menu creation (i.e. after clicking on anything that should display a new window or a new menu). However, not all window/menu creations cause the xorg to crash.
I'm now testing a session with the "animations" plugin of Compiz disabled, and will report if this is a valid workaround.
To disable the plugin use compizconfig-settings-manager
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
