I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 dev with xserver-xorg-core 2:1.14.5-1ubuntu2 and if a device is unplugged and plugged it will change its previous configuration. Here is what I get after login into my desktop:

And this after unplugging and plugging the mouse and keyboard:

  auto repeating keys: 00ffffffdffffbbf
                        fadfffefffedffff
                        9fffffffffffffff
                        fff7ffffffffffff
bell percent: 50 bell pitch: 400 bell duration: 100
Pointer Control:
  acceleration: 2/1 threshold: 4
Screen Saver:
prefer blanking: yes allow exposures: yes
  timeout: 0 cycle: 0
Colors:

DPMS (Energy Star):

  DPMS is Disabled

Some values have changed and I'm assuming that the second one from the mouse and keyboard are the default ones from the X-Server. As this changes the usability in an unexpected way maybe Ubuntu should take care that it keeps always the same values for example with the help of udev.
