That's not a bug in xmodmap which is just a tool to set keymaps. There is a keymap applet in gnome which uses those xmodmap.* files, and I bet KDE has something similar. |

Closing again. Now I did a bit of research, and you should use setxkbmap instead. Gkb-applet from GNOME actually uses XKB and those xmodmap.* files should probably be dropped. |
