Wrong file location (edgy)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xmodmap

In edgy, all the /usr/share/xmodmap.* files are located in the gnome-applets-data package and not in the xmodmap one.

This means that a KDE user cannot access them, unless he has that package installed

That's not a bug in xmodmap which is just a tool to set keymaps. There is a keymap applet in gnome which uses those xmodmap.* files, and I bet KDE has something similar.

Sorry for re-opening this, but please do a bit of reserch before closing bugs.
As seen on packages.ubuntu.com, xmodmap.* files are found _only_ under gnome-applets-data. KDE has _not_ them under any package.
I've two questions:
1) Why the files, if those are gnome-applets files (for which applet?), are located under xmodmap directory? Why they shouldn't be located under some gnome-related dir?
2) Lets suppose i'm a KDE user and i need to reconfigure my keyboard in a script...what should I do? AFAIK xmodmap is the only way of doing so.

Moving those files under xmodmap package seems more rationale to me.
Sorry for my bad english.

Closing again. Now I did a bit of research, and you should use setxkbmap instead. Gkb-applet from GNOME actually uses XKB and those xmodmap.* files should probably be dropped.

I was notified that those files are there for platforms which dont support XKB.
