Hi Len,

are you sure that xorg is the correct package?

Properly unity would be more correct.

No unity here, maybe xfce4 though. I actually didn't put xorg in,
ubuntu-bug did that. I am not sure which of the xfce4 packages though...
or if xfce4.10 adds something that hasn't been allowed for.

Yes, if you are seeing it in unity as well, that is confusing. I think
unity uses nautilus for the desktop and xfce4 uses thunar. So maybe gvfs?

Yes, it is nautilus, so I also see this as a underlying problem. I do not know enough to make further guessing, but ... yes, gvfs is one possibility. May be attaching this package additional make sense.

Attached a screenshot shows two icons for two drives. Note that one set of icons has a different graphic than the other. Also the graphic that looks like the innards of a hard drive changes to the other style graphic if the mouse hovers over it or xfce-settings manager is started.

I should also note: This is only on the live session from the ISO (DVD or USB stick) the problem does not show up in the installed version.

Scratch comment #11. The problem does show up after install, it only looked like it went away because there was only two icons, but they are both the same device. The other two are gone because I installed on that device.

This is not just nautilus - same issue in Thunar.

A temporary work arround :

Go to desktop setting (in xfe desktop)
Then click on icon tab and uncheck removable media .

This will temporarily solve the duplicate icon for internel storage..

But you will lose the desktop icon for external or removeable media.
