You are absolutely correct! Please note that this bug was originally posted on Feb. 23, 2008. It is now 4 mos. later, with no proper fix. There are many who do not have a working native Xfce terminal.
My goal was to a) help the process along by identifying the area of code with the problem, and b) create a clean build so that I can run a local copy of terminal until a proper fix is released.
I leave it for someone else to fix the actual problem.
