so the original bug of the display resetting to NULL has *not* been fixed in the latest git version.
I left it for a day, came back and the display was blank when I turned on the projector.
I have applied Alexander's 1 line patch and I'm testing that now. But the git version has *not* fixed the problem.
Someone else has reported the same issue with the git version in the ubuntu version of this bug report btw
