Try typing password into unresponsive screen

I have a similar scenario 21.10, when waking from suspend by opening laptop lid, the desktop is visible, the cursor displays, but clicks and typing do nothing.

However if I type my password the system becomes usable. I.e. the lock is in effect, but the box to type password is invisible.
