I have the same Problem in xubuntu Trusty (14.04) .

When I try to access the Xubuntu-Power-Manager through Xubuntu Settings / Settings Manager first nothing happen, then ill become an error message:

"xfce4-power-manager-settings-CRITICAL **: Unable to get configuration information from xfce power manager: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

the same in terminal...
