I'm still seeing this bug on 14.10.
There are suggestions floating around the web to the effect that it's caused by systemd.
One suggested solution is to add the following to /etc/systemd/logind.conf : HandleLidSwitch=ignore LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited=no
I've done so, but have not rebooted to see the result.
