I was able to install the following packages manually:
libxen3.1 python-xen-3.1 xen-docs-3.1 xen-hypervisor-3.1 xen-ioemu-3.1 xen-utils-3.1
and also: xen-image-2.6.19-4-generic-amd64 which there should also be a xen kernel that goes with the meta package(s)
I now have a new problem, not being able to find the python xen modules on xend start. That is probably a different issue though.
