The error messages in DpkgTerminalLog.gz indicate a problem with your xemacs21 installation. What's the status of xemacs21, did you install it successfully? If you remove it completely ("apt-get uninstall --purge") are you able to proceed with emacsen-common installation?

I am setting the Status of this bug report to Incomplete to mark it as pending on further input from you. Once you have supplied the requested information, it can be set back to New (or perhaps even Confirmed). Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

Changed in emacsen-common (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I did not succeed to remove xemacs21 with terminal command sudo apt-get
uninstall xemacs21 ,I have the message: E:invalid operation uninstall. I
tried also to remove emacsen-common with the gaphic interface "ubuntu
software center" but it fail.

My bug (#991526) was marked a duplicate of this bug. I tried "apt-get remove --purge xemacs21" but since xemacs was not installed on my system this did not do much, except generate error messages similar to the ones I had before. Strangely (to me, at least) these error messages involve the packages I've tried to install (emacs and auctex), but were not specified in the actual command I tried now.

I'm copying the output below. Thanks for looking into this!
