The attached VarLogDistupgradeTermlog.gz has symptoms of a broken or misconfigured disk, could you run fsck to make sure a failing disk is not the root cause of your problems?

Other than that, the symptoms look vaguely similar to bug #949369 -- there appears to be a problem with xemacs21, but it might be unrelated.
