As an alternative voice, please don't break "remember saved-to directory on a per-site basis" for those of us who rely on it and are OK with setting Flatpak manifest permission grants for ths relevant locations to make it work.
This is an XDG File Chooser Portal bug.
(Specifically, the file chooser's get path and set path operations are asymmetric. If the user sets path A and it gets converted to document portal path B on retrieval, then Firefox handing path B back in will not cause the chooser to navigate to path A.)
