Natty has a newer version of x264:

      x264 | 2:0.98.1653+git88b90d9-3ubuntu1 | maverick-updates/universe | source, amd64, i386
      x264 | 2:0.106.1741-3 | natty/universe | source, amd64, i386

Can you please retry with that x264-106?
