Two small things:
1) You can close a bug (e.g. this one) in debian/changelog by putting LP: #bugnumber in there. (I've smuggled this in right now).
2) For updates, which don't involve a new upstream version, a debdiff is much easier to review. You can create one with "debdiff oldpackage.dsc newpackage.dsc".
