did someone check what what consequences removing /etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules has?
The bug commenters have made it pretty clear that the cause is that udev brings up the network interfaces too early. I still suspect that wpasupplicant fails because some kernel crypto modules have not been loaded yet.
