Well, it does render the package unusable. Sorry if I'm being blunt..

See, I didn't see that setting at first, but now, I see it and checking
or unchecking it doesn't change anything at all. The timers completely
ignore (in)activity.

It is, I double-checked in gconf.
I really think we have a bug here. :(

I can confirm this bug. It is new, and probably not platform-specific given

No idea at all. It all works for me. You must have some evil
configuration option I don't have. Might be a config file or a gconf
key, might be some X option...
Do you use Gnome? Do you have X's Xkb extension enabled? Is the option
"Suspend timer when inactive" on or off? Is your system completely

Subject: workrave ignores my lack of activity
Package: workrave
Version: 1.6.1-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Starting with this version (I *think* I just upgraded workrave),
workrave doesn't consider my times of inactivity. Usually, when I stop
using the keyboard or mouse, workrave considers the time passing as
"idle time" and stops counting the "busy time".
This doesn't work anymore. The timers just go on and on, and when
workrave asks me to take a break, I can't do it, because to trigger the
break, workrave has to "see" me "stop working".

Oh please! Calling this a 'grave' bug is just ridiculous!

You might want to have a look at /usr/share/
* Workrave 1.6.0
[...]
** Timers can be configured to ignore activity.
Checking the "Suspend timer when inactive" checkbox in the "Micro-Break"
tab of preferences/Timer should bring back the old behaviour.
So this is really a minor bug: By default
/apps/workrave/
'true'
Thanks,
Johannes

I hope this bug is now fixed.... Pawel's analysis was very accurate.
Unfortunately, I didn't understand it at first....
I thought workrave didn't need the 'button released' event. Only button
presses are counted as activity. However, the fix for bug #335 requires
button release events....Xrecord should deliver these events [so here
is an inconsistency with Pawel's comment that enabling xrecord didn't
help]. However, when xrecord is not available or fails, workrave falls
back to a dirty hack to monitor keyboard and mouse. This hack uses the
grabbutton (which only grab presses) which does not detect mouse
release events.....
It is very likely that this hack will be removed in a future version of
workrave (>= 1.7)

Oh please! Calling this a 'grave' bug is just ridiculous!

You might want to have a look at /usr/share/ doc/workrave/ NEWS.gz:
* Workrave 1.6.0
[...]
** Timers can be configured to ignore activity.
******* ******* ******* ******* **
Checking the "Suspend timer when inactive" checkbox in the "Micro-Break"
tab of preferences/Timer should bring back the old behaviour.
So this is really a minor bug: By default timers/ micro_pause/ activity_ sensitive should be set to
/apps/workrave/
'true'
Thanks,
Johannes
