Well I've tested openCanvas as best I can on windows and on wine. The layering issues seem to have been fixed. It appears to run really well except for a windowing problem.
There isn't a window listed in the taskbar for opencanvas on ubuntu 7.10. This causes trouble I believe for instance when you are have the layer properities window open and then click off of it, it will disappear on ubuntu. On windows it is a modal dialog and can't become out of focus. Once out of focus on ubuntu you can no longer get it to reapper in the foreground. However it still has the input trapped to it so you can't input into the program either. You can work around this by restarting openCanvas.
I'm going to send in my WTSetA/W patches as they appear to have fixed the layering issues for me.
