Telling people to change subsystems just to get one application working is pointless. Especially if "you" are that one application.

It takes more knowledge than an "average user" has, and takes more work than an "experienced user" is willing to invest.
So while the "experienced user" might patch wine, the "average user" will just use Windows. That's ok, those are valid alternatives to using vanilla wine.

And hardware sound is dead. Onboard sound made it die, Microsoft buried it with DirectSound in Vista. Stop beating a dead horse.
