Ubuntu Fedora and other major distributions are using PulseAudio for nearly two years now.
Professionals can use ALSA on whatever distribution or operating system they want, BUT still most linux users use PulseAudio by default.
So according to wikipedia
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/00/Pulseaudio-diagram.svg
using ALSA on a PulseAudio system, adds more delay because of the use of 'libalsa Pulse' on the library layer, and causes even more problems.
Remember that this is the current situation for MOST linux users.

So using ALSA is more professional (you can just let it be the default), but not providing native PulseAudio driver hurts the masses.
Of course, we can try forcing all those users to use ALSA, or event force them to use windows... You forget that linux (most Wine users use it) is about freedom.

And yes there is someone who is willing to be a maintainer, it`s him who will write the code not you (PulseAudio haters) so stop complaining.
